Technical SEO

Technical SEO

Search engines rank websites and deliver them to users through search results. This makes it extremely easy for users to find pages and content that’s relevant to their immediate needs without a significant expenditure of time or effort. Search engines make all of this possible through a process known as indexing.

When a search engine indexes a site, their system attempts to crawl through every page on the site and use information from the pages to create a database entry representing the website and its content. This entry contains more than 200 individual metrics, and is what search engines use to decide which results to return for a given search, and the order in which to display them.

The complex algorithms that are used to rank websites are kept under wraps by each search engine. Over time, we’ve learned to understand many of the technical expectations that can help a website rank highly for search terms and phrases. These technical SEO requirements make up the backbone of our SEO strategy at ExcelForce.

Accessibility

The first key to technical SEO is accessibility. There isn’t a global standard for website construction or design, meaning there are hundreds of thousands of unique website architectures in use. While a great website platform makes it easy to create a solid user experience, few platforms make it easy for search engines to index pages and content.

Over the years, ExcelForce has worked with thousands of websites for brands around the world. We’ve encountered a wide variety of platforms and have learned how to make websites accessible to search engines without compromising the user experience.

Structure

Search engines rely heavily on URL structure to understand the context of a web page and place it within the overall site design. A website with a consistent page hierarchy that is supported by effective URL structure will be looked upon favourably by all search engines.

Code

The HTML, JavaScript, and CSS on a website can contribute heavily to SEO and presence in search engine results. HTML meta tags should be formatted correctly with keywords matching on-page content and JavaScript and CSS should not be overused.

Content

Content duplication can easily become a technical roadblock for many websites, especially those utilising multiple domains. Search engines penalise sites with duplicate content, making it necessary to effectively use permanent redirects.

Technical SEO is critical to a successful SEO strategy. While on-page SEO is more visible and appreciable, the effort put into your site accessibility, design, and structure has a direct impact on how search engine crawlers interact with and index your pages and content. Our internal team of web developers and SEO experts have the technical training and experience necessary to fully support your needs.

Whether you’re looking for support in the building process, or thorough improvement of an existing site, ExcelForce is here to help.
