That is why Kinko’s Inc. has been founded.As early as the year 1970, Paul Orfalea, a man originated in Lebanon, opened up Kinko’s Copies Corporation. Its name comes from his nickname, which means curly hair. Although he is known to be incompetent and has a learning disability, he still manages to finish his schooling as a finance graduate in the University of Southern California. He was also a “C” level student on his class. On that time, if someone does not know how to read, or are not capable of doing jobs or task, then no one will ever hire you. And because of this, he became unemployed.
Because of his condition, Orfalea strived to have something. That’s when he sees a photo copy machine in the campus’ library. And because he had a little knowledge on mechanics, he thinks of what he can do in a photo copy machine to make profit out of it. Then, an idea came to his mind. With the help of his father, he borrow money from the Bank of America, rent a small space and a photo copy machine, and then started his very own photo copy business near the campus. He charges his customers for four cents in every page that they photo copy. He also sells other school supplies to make extra profit. And because what he started has become a success, he also opens up other stores in different campuses, with the help of his other business partner. That’s when they started franchising their business.
To make the business become even more popular to the crowd, then also try marketing it by means of slipping promotional materials onto everybody’s mailboxes. After that, they started getting orders for large bulk of documents to photo copy. They also started to deliver photo copied documents to their clients. They also started offering their client, such as college professors, custom publishing materials. Because of their quality and good service, they continue to expand, having about eighty stores opened for almost a decade.
For several years of striving and continuing to extend and improve their service to the people, Kinko’s Incorporation keep on adding up new services that they can provide to satisfy the needs of the people. As a current add up to their services, now they also offer finishing services like binding and stapling, quick printing, mailing, colored copying, custom printing, pickup and delivery, computer rentals, and selling stationery and office supplies. They also started making their store open for 24 hours because more and more people are asking them to extend their service ours. This truly made them exemplary on their business because they provide services to the people whenever they need to.
