Barack Obama Speech Addresses Economic Concerns
One of the big buzz topics today is Barack Obamas speech on race in America. What struck me is that he also lighted on some economic concerns. I think it interesting that he does understand how many Americans are feeling. And it really resonated with me because I grew up white and middle-class, and Barack Obama addressed some of the concerns that I hear from my relatives and acquaintances:
Theyve worked hard all their lives, many times only to see their jobs
shipped overseas or their pension dumped after a lifetime of labor.
They are anxious about their futures, and feel their dreams slipping
away; in an era of stagnant wages and global competition, opportunity
comes to be seen as a zero sum game, in which your dreams come at my
expense.
Some of the ideas I like in Barack Obamas economic plans for the country include the following:
More jobs in a green economy. This is important. A green economy is essential for the future, since it represents better fuel options for less cost in the long run.
Cutting the amount of money that goes to fund military ventures in other countries.
Public insurance program that would be similar to what government employees get
Barack Obama offers some interesting ideas for the future, and for the economy. And some of his ideas just might affect you.
Do you think Barack Obama would be good for the economy? For your personal finances?
