First, who

First, who

I ran into a friend of mine at a party last week, a dermatologist who had opened a cold-start practice two years ago. (A “cold-start” practice is one where the physician is new in town, having no significant ties, did not train in area nor live there). He was busy, has added a range of cosmetic and lifestyle services in addition to the mainstay clinical care. What was so interesting was that he had pretty much done it himself, aided by an office manager with unusual skills and talent. His advertising looks professional, has a clear message and a “call to action”, his materials are clean and clear to the reader, and he clearly is reaching people.

How did he do it? He talked about reading Jim Collin’s classic book, “Good to Great”. One of the central themes of the book is “get the right people on the bus, and the wrong people off”. In short, when building your organization, focus on the “who” – the people. Then focus on the “what” you are going to do. My friend found an office manager who also had a flair for marketing and promotion, and she has been invaluable in building the practice.

At the end of World War II, Ford Motor Company hired a group of people dubbed “The Whiz Kids”. This group included future leaders of Ford as Arjay Miller, Robert McNamara (also US Secretary of Defense) and Lee Iacocca. None had auto experience – their bent was management science, and they had worked as a team in the Army Air Force during the war. Their talents were put to use within Ford, first as a group, and then they went on different paths – some rising in the organization, others leaving for other pursuits.

The takeaway here is this: recruiting and hiring are the most important decisions you will make. Spend on ads – too many people become cheap when it comes to placing ads. Use web services, professional organizations and word of mouth – I’ve never understood people who become shy when looking for new talent. Finally, interview thoroughly – have others interview the candidates (one on one), and always bring your best candidate(s) back for at least a second interview.

The Three Elements That Make a Franchise

The Three Elements That Make a Franchise

Ask a Franchising Question?

Send AllBusiness a Confidential E-Mail

The simplest way to define a franchise is to reference the Federal Trade Commission’s rule.

There are just three elements:

First, the franchisee must pay at least $500 to the franchisor within six months of starting the business.

Second, the franchisee uses the franchisor’s trademarks or service marks when conducting the business.

And third, the franchisor must exercise signficant control over the operation of the business. (In other words, if the franchisor provides training for running the business and also obligates the franchisee contractually to certain standards, then there is significant control.)

It usually associates with the big businesses that require a life insurance contingency plan in case of the death of a particular figure in the company. The American Prosperity Group or APG offers Retirement and Estate planning opportunities to the public. This franchise targets most big businesses and organizations but may also handle smaller ones. Several big associations turn for the worst if a proper contingency plan has not been created before the demise of certain important figures in the business. This plan will make sure that these problems are completely avoided.
To start up an American Prosperity Group franchise the total investment required is $95,000 to $150,000 with an initial franchise fee of $50,000. There is no royalty fee but there is however advertising fee of 1% of gross revenues annually with a 15 year term of agreement. A minimum of $15,000 is kept in reserve to cover for the advertising and marketing with APG.
Training will take place at the APG Corporate Offices and will be held for 4 weeks; however these weeks may not be consecutive. The program will discuss the aspects of the franchise system and will be discussed in the classroom. The franchisee will receive an APG Training manual, an APG Operations Manual and continued training will commence at your APG franchise office. Scheduled visits to your business throughout the course of your terms will offer your continued guidance and assistance with regards to all aspects. The manual will provide you with the specifics and standards such as the operating procedures and suggestions to guide you with operating the franchise.
Several business owners have taken into consideration that they will at some point, be permanently leaving the business with know one who knows the ropes and ways around the business, to take over from him. This is because the business must still continue regardless of who manages it and if the original owner can do so or not. Company owned life insurance helps the business with financial problems that arise after the demise of a fellow employee, a key partner or even a co owner. This is essential to initialize at least a fund for the buy and sell agreement. At times of loss, businesses tend to stagger down into a static slump that disables production. With this agreement you may be able to purchase some interest from the heirs of the demised, after which continue thriving the business.
There are several factors that affect life insurance; therefore before the implementation of a strategy it would be best to ensure that the client or individual is at least capable of this insurance. There are several expenses involved as well in the purchase and processing of life insurance. Therefore when it comes to this type of business franchise it is essential to first be able to do ample research with regards to the clientele and target audience. It is very important to make sure the franchisee will live up to the customers’ expectations or better yet go beyond the expectations of others in promoting the quality service that the company is well renowned for.

As promised, in this article you would find an e-zine publisher business guide that will be very helpful to you as you establish your own publishing business. We will guide you through the two important steps when your online publishing business is still in its infancy.

The first step is to get a website, then to install a mailing list manager for automatic distribution and subscriber list management.

Secure a Website for your E-Zine Publisher Business

This is the first requirement for establishing a startup e-zine publishing business. This is where you post details about your business, as well as publish the articles that you would include in e-zine or your newsletter. This is where your potential subscribers can preview your content and where they can secure a subscription, if ever they decide to get one from you.

In choosing a web hosting service, you would need a host that allows you a high storage capacity, because the amount of submissions you would be receiving from authors would be huge. You would also need a database to store the contact details of your subscribers, because you would need the data later on in distributing your newsletters. You would also need to enlist the help of a good website designer and programmer in order to create an appealing website with working functionalities.

Get a Mailing List Manager
The Mailing List Manager is an essential part of your publishing business. It takes care of the automatic distribution of your e-zine to your subscribers. It is a very handy tool to have for your business, especially when the number of your subscribers has grown exponentially and it would be difficult for you to add new addresses to the queue list manually.

Mailing list managers in the past were difficult to use as they utilize a command line. However, the newer programs have been designed with a graphical user interface that is fortunately easy to use. This is the prime criterion in selecting the mailing list software that you want to use. You should be able to easily backup your subscriber list, and manage it as easily as you would turn your TV on and watch programs.

Marketing Plan

This is the most challenging part of starting an e-zine publishing business. Being a new fish in the e-zine publishing pond, you would a very good marketing strategy in order to get people to look at your content and to gain subscribers. Fortunately, there are many ways that you can exploit in order to market your new e-zine publisher business to possible consumers.

Little did others know that it is possible to start a home business even without having a huge amount of capital in hand.Starting a home business with no money is really not a problem since there are many organizations that provide financial aids to individuals who wish to start their very own home business.
It is recommended that one should have a creative mind and innovative skills in starting a home business with no money. Patience is also required in starting a business with no money because things will not always turn the way they are planned.
Home businesses such as creating and selling hand made crafts, providing consultation services, and handyman services are the types of business that are usually easy to put up even with no money on hand.
But if you have other types of home business on mind that can be started with no money, you need to be realistic. Do not choose to start a home business which requires special research and a lot of professional services because you do not want to pay for those instead, you must consider the current skills and talents that you currently have. You can put up a home business that will use the skills and talents that you have, such of this business is a cooking business wherein you do not need to hire somebody who will cook for you because you already have the skills in cooking. Since you already know the dos and don’ts in cooking, you will less likely to make mistakes that will cost you a lot.
Hiring a lot of people in starting a home business with no money is not a good thing to do. Instead, you have to do all things by yourself or with the help of your family members. This is one price you have to pay in starting your own home business even without money.
Also, check with your local county office for assistance in starting your home business with no money. Governments usually have programs for individuals who wish to start their own business at home even without having to provide capital upfront.
When you already have started your own home business, the next thing you might encounter is how you will advertise your business. To do this, it requires you to be more creative. You can ask family and friends to help you in spreading the word that you have a particular business. This is called word of mouth. Word of mouth is the best form of advertisement because it is free. You just need to be creative in advertising your business. Alternatively, you can give your customers reward if they recommend your business to their family and friends.

How to Register a Franchise

How to Register a Franchise
2 s5,864 views

The registration of a franchise is an important legality in setting up a business that must not be forgotten as it will decide the overall success of your company since it will show that you are credible and legal to offer products and services to the community.

There are many things to consider in starting up a business, the business model, the finances, the franchise you wish to consider and many others. One of the most important aspects of starting a business is registering your business or franchise. The government is strict on the legalities of people and their businesses in the country and it would be financial suicide to go along running a company that does not hold legal credibility. The operation of an unregistered business is illegal and punishable by law, therefore it has a certain roster of consequences that you would not want to be held liable for as the business or franchise owner. The registration process depends on the type of business you plan on operating and should usually be done before the company can be considered operational or open for business. This process is conducted at the Secretary of State’s office.
Before you begin registering your franchise you must first review all your legal documentation. Be able to determine the type of franchise by the basis of contract. Your allegiance and partnership to the franchiser and the contract that has been signed in accordance to it will identify your business and mark it as credible depending on the legal right the contract has in itself. It is with cases like these that it would be best to consult with a lawyer to review the legalities of your documents.
Prepare the essential organizational articles and documentation that you have acquired from the franchiser, these include the incorporation articles, the organizational articles, partnership agreements, and proprietorship documents. Prepare and file these documents at the Secretary of State and have them verified accordingly. You may either request online or personally the forms required for the registration of your franchise. Fill up these forms accordingly and avoid unanswered spaces or errors.
Depending on the location of your business and where you plan on registering it, you will need to abide by certain local rules and these vary per state. You may be required to submit other forms of documentation relevant to your location and if you are unsure what your state requires from you it would be wise to either do your research on the internet or call them directly to ask for the requirements to register your franchise so as to save on the time of going there and finding out that you lack certain necessary documents to file for registration.
Lastly once you have readied all the necessary paperwork’s and have had them reviewed accordingly you may now summit your documents for approval at the Secretary of State.
