The internet has expanded the field of photography to a vast extent. But what if you want to open your own cameras store? Do you know what you will require in the form of inventory and stocks? These questions can be confusing and difficult to understand but with a little patience you can get started on your own camera store and here’s how!

What do you need to take of while starting a camera store?

Write one starting a camera store business plan – a business plan is like a road map to what is required for your fledgling business. It also details all you will be able to spend on different parts of starting a camera store. A good business plan details your financial requirements of day to day running for the business; provide a detailed estimate of resources and inventory, financing for your camera store, as well a barometer for your financial success. You can identify and shortlist potential clients, as well as plan out a specific marketing and sales strategy.

Register your business – Most countries have specific formalities required for registration before you start your camera store. Get in touch with the relevant authorities for any special regulations and rules you might have to register for before starting up.

Selection of an area – Finding the right place for starting your camera store is really important but this entirely depends on your preferences. If you want to start it a busy mall or in a residential area; it depends on where you feel will get the maximum exposure and business. Before starting make sure you have the necessary permissions and camera store licenses especially if you plan to open in a residential area.

Startup Cost for starting your camera store business – Store inventory will completely depend on your budget, space availability and the requirements for customers. Before you start ordering make a listing of all the photographic equipment that you will need like cameras, lenses, tripods, filters, electronic flash units, studio lights and stands, seamless paper and don’t forget to order the store equipment you will also need.

Once you have the space and equipment ready the only left is pricing and marketing of your camera store. Market your store by enlisting with professional photography organizations, prepare a great looking portfolio to lure clients and then prepare interesting press releases to get your business going. Starting a camera store can be difficult but good preparation and hard work you could be reaping the benefits in a short period of time.

I don’t know if they are still in business, but I was thinking we could get all those peeps into a business we create and start filling their needs! LOL Are you interested? A guy named Dan Meyer (lives in Agoura) called and needs someone to take a photo of an item he has for sale that he wants to put into a magazine ad. Could be an interesting and fun little side-business.
Love you,

Binay Agarwal said on July 11, 2014I own a Camera store in Kolkata. All I could suggest is if you are really willing to start a camera store. First find a good supplier, as I found one in Kolkata. I started the business way back in 1990 till 2007 I was only making a substantial amount of Rs 25000 a week. One fine this gentlemen walks to my shop and offers me to provide camera on credit with a small amount of security deposit. I thought he is making a fool of me. However, after few conversation we decided to take a chance. I deposited 2 lacks and got a credit for 35 lakhs as per the evaluation process of the supplier. Now I am selling camera throughout India and making a handsome amount of Rs 100000 every 5 days.

Suggestion: Do a complete research of the product and find a suitable supplier. After all it is rightly said fortune favours the brave.
Thanks, Binay.
