Most Easter shoppers (58.8 percent) will buy their bunnies and candy chicks at discounters, according to the 2008 Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey conducted by BIG research for the National Retail Federation.
But that is not to say that other stores wont also benefit. Indeed, 35.6 percent of holiday shoppers will go to department stores; 23.6 percent will shop at specialty stores; and 7.6 percent will go to specialty clothing stores.
Interestingly, young adult between the ages of 18 and 24 years old will spend the most ($11.09) on decorations, giving an Easter touch to dorm rooms and apartments. Young families with parents in the 25 to 34 age group will spend an average of $10 on decorations, while older consumers between the ages of 35 and 44 will spend $7.44. Those in the 45 to 54 age range will spend only $5.85
For total Easter spending, consumers between the ages of 25 and 34 will spend the most ($151.41) this Easter
Consumers who are planning big family gatherings will head to grocery stores in droves this week, says Phil Rist, vice president of strategy at BIGresearch. Many will also purchase gifts for children, grandchildren and other loved ones while they are shopping for a seasonal outfit or decorations.
