Marketing P.A.I.N. – Part 3, Advertising the First Stage of Pain

Marketing P.A.I.N. – Part 3, Advertising the First Stage of Pain

A brand is a trademark or distinctive name identifying a product or a manufacturer. Branding is the process of raising awareness of the advantages of a particular trademark, and building strong emotional ties between customers and products.

The advantage in building a brand is that people ask by name for what you sell. The disadvantage is that they’ll buy when they want to, rather than when you wish to sell.

But if your prospective customer feels no discomfort, she will feel no incentive to buy. Not your brand. Not anyone else’s.

Truthfully, the vast majority of people at any given point in time feel no pain. They have no interest in what you offer. They consider your ads a nuisance. They wish your ads would go away. And that assumes that you managed to catch their attention at all. And yet, effective branding happens at Pain Stage 1.

Branding strategy targets people who are not yet aware of discomfort.

Why would you advertise to those non-prospects?

To increase the reach of your advertising.

The broad, all-inclusive lack of focus in the message, “eliminate your pain by purchasing our product/service,” doesn’t allow the targeting of specific audiences. Ads for pregnancy tests, for instance, will be exposed to retired men as well as to women of childbearing years. Ads for weight loss products will reach thin people. Ads for cars will become familiar to children.

At Stage 1, your message reaches “everyone,” and waits for some of them to experience a triggering event. People’s status occasionally changes, and for some, an event will occur which places them firmly in the market. Some women of childbearing age will need a pregnancy test. Some thin people will overindulge over the holidays. Children will grow up, and some of them will purchase automobiles.

Combined with top-of-mind awareness caused by your advertising, this new perception of need will lead them to look you up in the white pages, rather than looking up your business category in the Yellow Pages.

Typical Stage 1 messaging is “We Want Your Business.”

A much more effective Stage 1 message is “If you ever need us, we’re here for you.”

My favorite example of a successful Stage 1 advertising campaign is Roto Rooter. For the last five decades their message has been “When your drain clogs, we’re a phone call away.”

The company’s Public Relations Manager tells me they refer to their campaigns as “grudge marketing.” Paul Abrams describes this mindset as, “We’re the company people call when they have drain problems. People know us by name, but they resent being forced to call.”

The public knows Roto Rooter’s name because of the consistency with which the company’s advertising exposes the mythical “everyone.” Roto Rooter knows eventually some drains will clog.

Here’s a sample Roto Rooter ad from 1968.

It’s Not “Nothing”

It’s Not “Nothing”

Let’s talk about keeping secrets. Wait. First, let’s address sharing the secret. If you want to share a secret, know from the outset, like before you even say a word, that what you’re about to say might not in fact be something the other person can keep to himself. Keeping a secret can be a burden, so before you ask someone to maintain some confidentiality make sure that it’s possible. Sometimes it’s just not. On the other hand, if someone is about to share something with me and I know full well that it’s not something I can ethically keep to myself I make that clear. It doesn’t happen a lot, but what’s the point of saying “yes” if asked if you can keep a secret when you know you can’t?
I wanted to write more about keeping a confidence at work, but something caught my eye that’s somewhat related. This was in the Chicago Tribune Career Builder section that is published on Sundays. It’s really a vehicle for job listings but also has short bits that remind us of various aspects of work. So this particular bit that got my attention had a headline that said, ” ‘ Awww shucks, it was nothing.’ ” Then: “Readers tell us about the ways they’ve stolen credit for something from their co-workers.”
I wasn’t really interested in what those work thieves had to say actually, but the notion of taking credit for work that’s not your own did stay with me. Are we trained to be honest and give credit where credit is due? You would think we learn about that stuff early on, like in elementary school and at home from the get-go. But then there’s that gray area where people might look to their right and left, notice that no one is really paying attention and then they take the cookie, or the brownie, or the list of employees with accompanying salaries that someone inadvertently left on the glass of the copy machine. I think some people really believe their actions are okay. In no one sees me, it’s no big deal. If I’m not hurting anybody, what’s the difference?
These are not very grown up sentiments and it’s a really bad way to go, because the people behaving this way usually don’t find a reason to stop unless they are busted in a very big way. But here’s the biggest problem, I think, when it comes to taking credit for someone else’s work: some people who want to do the right thing simply don’t have the courage sometimes or the language they need to ask the right questions. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking a colleague, “Am I allowed to . . . ?” or “Talking about this at the meeting without Mary who created the whole campaign doesn’t seem right. Should we reschedule?”
We’re all moving at such fast speeds and when you ask a question time feels like it’s coming to a standstill, but ask a lawyer who handles problems involving ownership of ideas, etc., if stopping to ask if it’s right is a wasted gesture.

Questions to ask yourself before opening a theatre stage equipment business

Questions to ask yourself before opening a theatre stage equipment business

Home » Business Tips » Questions to ask yourself before opening a theatre stage equipment business
May 10, 2016 Frank Bullock Business Tips
If you do not want to work in a big company from the corporate system anymore and want to become your own boss, or if you have studied business management at the university and want to open your first company, there are some highly important aspect you have to consider. In the case of opening a theatre equipment business, checking the competition is the first thing to do. Doing some research online on websites such as http://www.safestageservices.com might be a good starting point. Here are the main questions to ask yourself before starting your business.

Who are your competitors?

The first aspect you need to pay great attention to before opening a theatre stage equipment company is to check your competitors. You can do this by browsing the internet and see who your competitors exactly are. It is important to see what they offer their customers. If a strong competitor already exists in the same area where you want to open your business, it might take longer until you manage to reach the targeted group and make people opt for your products and services instead of your stronger competitors’ on the market.

How will you be different from them?

This is another question that needs to be answered. It is important to have a clear image upon what would make you different from other similar companies in this industry and what would make potential customers come to you. Even though the services you offer might be similar to the ones offered by other companies, make sure you add something to the package that will make the difference. Whether it is the price or the transportation of the products you provide, something in your company has to catch their attention and make people want to do business with you.

What is your targeted group?

Before starting a business, make sure you have established the targeted group. Think about what category of people would be interested in your products and whether those products can be used in other circumstances outside the theatre. If you think about theatre curtains for example, you should know that they can be used in events such as big weddings, fairs or exhibitions. As a result, you should not stick only to the idea that the type of products and services you will be offering are appropriate only for the theatre area.

How will you promote your business?

Finally yet importantly, you have to think of what the best method for promoting your business is. Since you are at the beginning of this journey, it is for sure that your budget is quite limited and you want to save as much money as possible. You might think that promoting the business on your own is the best solution. However, if you think it through, this might not be the go-for option. In order to benefit from the best results and to make sure your company increases its popularity rate as soon as possible, you should consider working with a promotional agency. Look online for the one that matches your needs and budget.

This would be easier on your part since you will be dealing with complicated matters. If you plan to do this alone, then it is best if you know some of the basics of it.No matter where your business stands in the world ranking, cash is the lifeblood of your business. From a multi-billion dollar empire of Bill Gates to a tiny street ice cream shop, you’re required to have a complete, detailed and defined record of the cash. In today’s financial crises, new businesses are getting very confined space to flourish. New businesses are seen closed in less than six years. Work-from-home businesses have dropped down their activities in just six months.
The main reason why these horror stories take place is the bad and poor management of cash flow. Accounting has dedicated a good portion of studies on ‘cash flow’. In this subject you are taught with the skills and techniques of managing your cash in the most perfect and efficient manner. You can have a professional CPA in your firm managing the flow of cash in a learned and skilled manner. But if you are not able to afford a CPA or some other Chartered Accountant for your firm, then you should take care of few layman concepts. In this article we will give you some of these laymen concepts.
Fast Collection of “Accounts Receivable”
We all are aware of the “Accounts Receivable” account in the balance sheet. In order to efficiently manage the cash flow of your business, you should make fast collections of these ‘accounts receivables’. If people don’t pay businesses quickly, the balance sheet keeps on accumulating the amount to the preceding months’ balance sheets. This adds up the amount, cases of which you will be confronting the coming month.
Therefore, you should always try to collect ‘as fast as possible’ collections of cash from your customers.
Fast Depositing for Check
You should deposit the check in your bank account as soon you receive it in your hand. Delaying the submission of check will add to the total time of receiving money. This will again add to the balance sheet of next month and you will be having more affairs to deal with the next month. Also, you should not deposit the checks in ATMs as they are a delayed method of payment. You should try your best to make the whole scenario as fast as possible.
Slow Payments
You should be slow while making payments. Write checks in future dates. This will give the maximum numbers to “Cash” account of your balance sheet for the current month.
Use your Money Intelligently
Instead of keeping your money in bank accounts, you should use it somewhere else efficiently. But make sure your money is safe wherever it is. Either you can buy bonds or some other safe commodities which can yield more or at least equal amount of money when withdrawn.

This article will help you go through the steps and will teach you how to start a poultry farm business and get a share on the market. Chickens are already an integral part of human life. Chickens are one of the major sources of animal meat, aside from pork and fish. As a business, they offer an opportunity for people to earn big that’s why there are many poultry farms out there. One of the major customers for poultry farms are the major fast-food companies, although some of them have their own chicken farms to supply their needs.

Don’t get behind the profits, and start setting up your poultry farms now. It is not hard to do so. Here are some useful tips that can help you along your way.

Get Financing for your Poultry Farm to Start Quickly

Setting up a poultry farm requires a lot of money, as poultry farming requires an expanse of land a hectare or more wide. You would also have to procure a large herd of chickens that are more than hundreds in number in order to generate the proper returns in income. Fortunately, you can avail yourself of loans that are offered to those that are starting or even those that are already in the business.Similar ArticlesFundamentals of Organic Poultry ProductionTips for Backyard Poultry Farming

The loans can be used to cover these aspects of the business:

Start-up costs for the farm
Construction expenses
Animal feeds
Operational expenses that need to be paid urgently.

It is also easy to apply for these loans, as there are lenders that can be found online aside from the local loan providers in your area. The terms and conditions of these loans can also be customized for your needs and your circumstances. You can also choose from secured and unsecured poultry loans. Some lenders will also offer you advice from experts on the poultry business, aside from the monetary aid that you will be getting.

Getting Your Poultry Farm Compliant With Regulations

Another important preparation is to comply with regulations. If you plan on engaging in free range farming, then you have to make sure that the operations of your farm and the treatment of your chickens comply with regulations that are formulated for businesses like yours. Check with your local government agencies regulating laws and regulations promulgated for poultry farms.

Adequate Medical Coverage for Your Chickens

Chickens are just like your children and other animals. To ensure continuous production of chicken and eggs, your chickens should be regularly checked by veterinarians to ensure their health. Sick chickens will negatively affect your production, so it is important to have adequate medical coverage for your poultry animals.

We are all not from the same place (COUNTRY), so getting a loan will always differ, and chicks are not of the same price. But anybody can start a poultry farm, just don’t start with too much loan from the bank. The best and assured thing to do is to start on a very small scale, maybe 100 chicks, then see what happens from there. Why should you get a loan for something, and then start using your profits for repaying the loan? Think twice. The bank is there not get everything you own, you might think they are of help, but they are not. Thanksgabriel said on February 26, 2009hi i want to start a poultry business, please advise me on the best building plan to use to construct the site. i am thinking of a story building.Cristina beginner adviser said on February 25, 2009How much space is needed for raising chickens?
Large fowl raised in a floor pen should be provided with at 1 square foot of space or more. Bantams could have lesser space. Perches also should be of correct height and width, 9 inches for large fowls and 6 inches for bantams. The width should be 2 inches.

How do I start a farm with egg houses?
Buy chicken houses or make chicken houses where the chicken can roost, lay eggs and take shelter. If you will build the chicken houses, make sure you follow the recommended structure and dimension. There are different floor space requirements depending on the size of birds you want to raise. There should be enough ventilation to keep the area dry and prevent the breeding of bacteria that could cause disease. Perches should also be of the correct width and height.

Choose the best chicken breeds for laying eggs. White Leghorn as well as Rhode Island Reds and New Hampshire Reds are usually preferred. You can buy and raise chicks or buy ready-to-lay pullets. Raising birds require enough space per chicken, ventilation, balanced ration feeding, and lighting. For birds to lay the most number of eggs, you have to provide them more than 12 hours of lighting. Ventilation is needed to prevent bacteria from breeding and causing diseases. Provide nest boxes. For large fowls, make it 1 square foot for four birds, and eight inches square for bantams.

For egg cartons and boxes and poultry supplies for feeding, breeding and harvesting poultry, visit www.eggboxes.com

What are the potential profits for a chicken farm?
For a business that can dispose of 1,000 broilers annually directly to consumers, can net more than $2.00 per bird.

Where do i buy my poultry house equipment like drinkers and heaters?

You should be willing to invest time, effort, and money to properly care for the horses. Determine the licensing and zoning requirements to comply accordingly.Boarding Stable Business
Purchasing a horse can be very costly but did you know that providing for shelter is more expensive? If you have your own horses and you want to earn profits, it would be best to start boarding stable business. This is a great way to provide your horses with the needed stables and at the same time, you’re also earning money. However, you should be aware that this type of business is labor intensive and time consuming. You should be willing to invest time and effort in order to succeed.
You must conduct thorough research to determine the competition in your region. Are there existing competitors in your area? You can offer basic or full services. Try to find out the local charging or rates for stall cleaning, feeding, training, hoof care, de-worming, and turnout. You don’t have to offer all these services and choose only the ones that you can do with ease and efficiency. Hire the needed staffs depending on the number of stables you have. It would be impossible to care for the horses alone, so you should hire extra help.
Licensing and Zoning
Consult with the local government agency to determine the licensing and zoning requirements. There are also permits that you need to obtain to care for several horses and for building the stables or facilities. Horses are expensive, so you need to purchase general liability insurance because your traditional home insurance will not cover it. With enough coverage, you don’t have to worry about possible accidents and disasters. Building the facilities will require huge costs, so you need to have substantial capital. You can use the business plan to apply for business loans. You can also build an indoor arena so that horses can use it year-round. However, this can cost you more so if you want to continue with this project, you will have to charge your clients extra for the use of the arena.
Having enough knowledge about horses and how to care for them can put you at an advantage. Monitor the diets and illness of the horses so that you can ensure their health at all times. Incorporation of the business is also possible and this is great to protect your personal assets. Use the internet to gather enough information about horses and how to run a boarding stable. Promote the business extensively and you can visit horse owners in your area to distribute your business card. You can also advertise online or in local newspapers or magazines.

Target Market Characteristics

Target Market Characteristics

The different characteristics of a target market are geographic, demographic, psychographic, behavioral, and product related.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Differentiate between different target market characteristics

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Key Points

  • A geographic target market can be consumers in a city, state, or country.
  • A demographic or socioeconomic target market would focus on a specific gender, age group, income level, or education level.
  • A psychographic target market would be a market that has similar attitudes, values, or lifestyle.
  • The behavioral target market focuses on occasions and degree of loyalty.
  • Product -related segmentation describes a target approach for customers who already own a specific product.
  • Determining a target market approach to sales has many benefits. It can create a more specific marketing campaign, increase sales, and decrease the number of competitors in the market.

Key Terms

  • target market: a group of people whose needs and preferences match the product range of a company and to whom those products are marketed

Target Market Characteristics:

The different characteristics of a target market are geographic, demographic, psychographic, behavioral, and product related.

Geographic

A geographic target market can be consumers in a city, state, or country. This is often important when it comes to international advertising. Some products may do well in some countries but not in others. For example, in Japan where they don’t have ovens, companies such as Betty Crocker would not focus their products in this geographic target market.

Geographic Target: A geographic target market could be a city, state, or country.

Demographic/Socioeconomic

A demographic or socioeconomic target market would focus on a specific gender, age group, income level, or education level. For example, Plato’s Closet, a consignment store for young adult clothing, would focus on the teen and young adult demographic. Irish Spring would focus on a male demographic.

Psychographic

A psychographic target market would be a market that has similar attitudes, values, or lifestyle. For example, the televisions station G4 is aimed at men but also gamers in the age 16-34 demographic.

Behavioral

The behavioral target market focuses on occasions and degree of loyalty. Facebook marketing is often focused on loyal customers with specials they can claim by getting a code on Facebook. There are also discount cards available that offer discounts by allowing shoppers to collect points each time they shop at their store.

Product Related Segmentation

Product related segmentation describes a target approach for customers who already own a specific product. For example, accessories for people who own cell phones, tablets, computers, iphones, or gaming systems. Determining a target market approach to sales has many benefits. It can create a more specific marketing campaign, increase sales, and decrease the number of competitors in the market.

Market Development

Market Development

Market development targets non-buying customers in currently targeted segments. It also targets new customers in new segments in order to expand the potential market. New users can be defined as: new geographic, demographic, institutional, or psychographic segments. Another way is to expand sales through new uses for the product.

Before developing a new market, companies should think about the following: Is it profitable? Will it require the introduction of new or modified products? Is the customer and channel researched and understood?

If a company believes that their strength lies with their products and they believe their products would be enticing to new customers, then a company may want to use a market development strategy.

New Product Development

New product development is a process that has two parallel paths: one involves the idea generation, product design, and detail engineering; the other involves market research and marketing analysis. A product is a set of benefits offered for exchange and can be tangible (that is, something physical you can touch) or intangible (like a service, experience, or belief). Companies typically see new product development as the first stage in the overall strategic process of product life cycle management used to maintain or grow market share.

If a company believes that their strength lies with the customers, then they should consider a product development strategy.
