Overview
One of the toniest localities of suburban Mumbai, Bandra is home to some of the famous Bollywood and cricket personalities. The name of Bandra is believed to have been derived from the Urdu word “Bandar” meaning port or harbour. The area was ruled by the Silhara Dynasty in the 12th century and was originally a tiny fishing village inhabited by the Kolis. The British East India Company later acquired the area and turned it into the Queen of Suburbs. Nearby areas to Bandra East include Bandra Kurla Complex, Matunga, Kurla, Mahim, Santa Cruz West, Dharavi etc.
Connectivity
Bandra enjoys is in close proximity to the Bandra Kurla commercial complex and much other important business centres in the area. It is located at a distance of 9km from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport connected via the Western Highway. It is well-linked to the rest of Mumbai via the Bandra Railway Station nearby, Hill Road while the Bandra-Worli Sea Link that has significantly reduced travel time for commuters.

The average property price in Bandra East is estimated to be around Rs 31,860 per sq. ft. with residential projects primarily featuring apartments in sizes ranging from 750 to 3,755 sq. ft.
Social Infrastructure
Bandra has some of the oldest and reputed convent schools, including St. Theresa’s High School, St. Stanislaus School, Cardinal Gracias High School etc. Other educational institutions that later came up include the schools and colleges under Rizvi Education complex located near Carter Road, Sanjeevani VidyaMandir, Welingkar Institute of Management and Development and Sheila Institute of Hotel Management. Famous health care facilities in the locality include Laxmi Surgical Hospital, Municipal Hospital, Guru Nanak Hospital, Asian Heart Institute and Research Centre and Contemporary Hospital.
Bandra has several places of recreation and siteseeing that include Mount Mary’s Basilica, Castella de Aguada which is a 17th century fort, Bandstand Promenade, Carter Road promenade, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra Fort etc. One can also find many colonial era bungalows in the area that reflect its unique architectural history and heritage that is however under threat due to rising demand for land and urban development. Bandra has the famous seaside Jogger’s Park situated next to the Otter’s Club on Carter Road. It has a 400m long jogging track and is known for having Mumbai’s first laughter club.
